Last week I posted a recipe for meat dumplings – a very popular dish in Austria. These dumplings are served with green salad or sauerkraut. And this is why I post the following recipe for sauerkraut with apples today.
Although it is very healthy, a lot of people don’t like sauerkraut very much. They don’t like the strong taste of fermentation. But maybe they like this kind of sauerkraut: The additional apples give a milder and sweeter taste. So it is worth a try!
– 350 g/12.3 oz sauerkraut
– 2 bay leaves
– some black peppercorns
– 1/2 apple
– 1/2 small onion
– 2 tablespoons vinegar
– 100 ml/ 3.4 fl oz broth
– 1 pinch of salt
– Peel apple, cut apple and onion in small pieces.
– Put all ingredients in a pot and stew for approximately for 30 to 40 minutes.
– Add some more salt if necessary and enjoy!
